मसान (2015)

Must Watch, with friends only
Cannot say anything about this good movie without any spoiler. But, I'll try. It shows the current state of mind of the Indian youth. They are trying to follow heart, being enclosed within the cage of social hooplas and rigid mentality. They have just two choices: to follow their hearts and suffer; or to follow their minds and regret. It also shows how the helpless are being kicked in the stomach by those in power; How the vague pride blinds you to see things clearly and you live in reflections, in this ugly society. The movie is increasingly depressing but throws light on issues which pain our society at large. Acting and direction is apt and few songs in between lighten the mood.

5 star film
This film got a 5 minute long standing ovation at Sundance. Two parallel stories in Holi city of Banaras. One on this side of ganga and one on the other side. Two love stories uncaring for society, cast and taboos. It shows India without a mask.

I am a banarasi and I approve of the film. Brilliant casting(especially the supporting actors) and brilliant authentic performances. I was transported to the streets. :)

I watched this movie like 3 times and every time I watch I learn something new from it. This movie is #thoughtProvoking and #offbeat . This movie belongs to the genre of movies like Lunchbox and Leap Year. Vicky Kaushal, Shweta Tripathi and Richa Chaddha gave an awe-struck performance in this #intense movie. Though it has #emotional scenes when Shweta dies and its Vicky who is burning her body to ashes yet this movie has the courage to dive into unexplored social stigmas of the society that are usually ignored and not talked about. This movie was honored with standing ovation on its screening in Cannes.

Everything is good about the film. Except in few scenes the regional language is not clear
Fed up of societal narrowmindedness, Devi And Deepak after encountering various mental pressure and truths in life, overcome the past and embrace the new present to fulfill their dreams in the future. Although these two leading characters (in two different stories) had experienced love and loss in their past lives, the marvellous intersection of them is shown. Whether it's the daughter father relation inspite of anger within self for each other or resentment against corrupt police officer or Devi's father taking care of the small boy or Deepak as a student as well as doing parental work of burning funeral pyres.... is acted so well by the actors as if it's a reality.

True story
This movie is as close to reality as it could be. It shows a common man's problems and also shows how sometimes its inevitable to avoid them. Unlike typical movie drama this movie gives an insight to the truth of broken relationships and moving on. The movie is a mixture of 2 stories throughout, interlinked with each other. Both stories, very genuine, real and true to character. The character development throughout teaches a lot to the viewer through the movie. You will have lots to take back from this movie. A must watch!

Neeraj Ghaywan took up a challenging task with his debut project of potraying two parallel stories with linear dimensions intersecting at cross raods between morality and desires. The screenplay may remain at a steady pace but Varun Grover has outdone himself with the storyline. New Actors Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi were a treat to watch with the excellence of Sanjay Mishra and Richa Chaddha. Avinash Arun, the DOP translated the screenplay effortlessly. Power to the whole team of Massan.

Great movie
When I started watching the movie I really had no expectation from it.But when the movie came to an end,it was a great experience.
ts a dark, complex, hard hitting movie, which is set across the enchanting Banaras and the majestic Ganges; revolving around the life of simple human beings.
Masaan? means a place, where dead bodies are cremated. If you can stand the sight of actual dead bodies being burnt, right after a cute scene of an excited 21 year old guy, whose Facebook friend request has been accepted by his crush; then yes, definitely watch this one.
The teenage love story, middle class people of Banaras and how a girl is harassed everyday when she had sex with her boyfriend and the guy dies.
Listen to the songs."Man kastoori re" and "Tu kisi rail si " is in my playlist right now.
